The US government has officially prolonged the national state of emergency in relation to Iran for an additional year.
As reported by Mehr News Agency and cited by CNN, President Joe Biden announced today the renewal of the state of national emergency against Iran for another twelve months.
In a letter addressed to Congress, Biden confirmed that Executive Order 12170, originally enacted against Iran on November 14, 1979, will continue to be in effect for another year following its upcoming anniversary on November 14 of this year.
The initial declaration of the national emergency was made by then-President Jimmy Carter in October 1979, which led to the seizure of Iranian assets within the United States.
Subsequently, former President Bill Clinton issued a new executive order in March 1995 that further imposed sanctions on Iran, enhancing the restrictions outlined in the original order.
