Why Osinbajo isn't campaigning for Tinubu at rallies

Osinbajo has not been participating in Tinubu’s campaign rallies ahead of the presidential election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has attempted to clear the air on why Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and some other stakeholders in the party have not been involved in the campaign of the party’s presidential torchbearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

who contested with Tinubu for the APC ticket, and some key party members have stayed away from APC Presidential campaign rallies since it was inaugurated in Jos on November 15, 2022.

Even though he has continued to attend other social functions, the Vice President has never been sighted close to Tinubu’s campaign nor has he publicly uttered any word of support for the ambition of his once close political ally.

This is even more apparent on the VP’s social media pages where all his major activities are usually posted, it’s observed that Osinbajo has never shared any material to show support for Tinubu’s candidacy.

In addition, a sizeable chunk of the Vice President’s supporters has also remained inactive both online and offline since the conclusion of the APC presidential convention, strengthening the claim that Osinbajo is not particularly disposed to the idea of his former boss ruling the country.

In the same vein, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, said during a television interview that he would not be campaigning for his party’s presidential candidate and has made good of his words so far.

APC provides an explanation: Reacting to this, the APC Presidential Campaign Council spokesman, Festus Keyamo, said Osinbajo’s continued absence on the campaign trail was a result of President Muhammadu Buhari’s directives.

He said the President, who is also the Chairman of the campaign council, has asked his Vice to concentrate on governance.

Keyamo’s words: “Rotimi Amaechi (former Minister of Transportation) was there in Adamawa State and Jos recently; he has been going to the rallies but he has picked the ones he wants to attend.

“For the Vice President, it was a directive for him to face governance, and you can see Mr. President has been going around campaigning. Also, Ngige is not campaigning against our party, he just said he will remain neutral for his own reasons and that is just one minister out of 43.
