Zelensky is reassured by a top-ranking US official who visits Ukraine about the supply of deadly weapons; during a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky in the capital of Kyiv, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman reiterated Washington’s military support for Ukraine.
On Monday, Sherman led a delegation to Kyiv. During that trip, he also met with people from Zelensky’s presidential office, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, and other high-ranking Ukrainian officials to talk about continuing to provide Kyiv with defense support.
The visit came at a time when Russia was alarming the possibility of war in Ukraine and issuing a warning against Western intervention.
Ned Price, a spokesperson for the State Department, stated in a statement that the visit’s objective is “to reaffirm the United States’ strong and steadfast commitment to Ukraine and its defense.”

Price added, “heard from young Ukrainians who have adapted their businesses and advocacy to support their fellow citizens even as they look ahead to Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction,” when describing the US delegation’s encounter with Ukraine.
The West’s plan to supply Ukraine with heavy weapons will only exacerbate the conflict and result in more civilian casualties, Russia has warned.
Sherman’s visit comes just a few weeks after Zelensky went to the United States to meet with Joe Biden, his American counterpart, and get more weapons because fighting is getting worse there.
In spite of Moscow’s warning that delivering such weapons to Kyiv would only serve to prolong the war and exacerbate the suffering of the Ukrainian people, Biden made a promise during the visit to increase military support for Ukraine, including the purchase of a new missile system.
Despite Russia’s warnings against escalating the conflict, Western nations, particularly the United States and the United Kingdom, have provided Ukraine with a plethora of lethal weapons since the conflict began. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Russia would legitimately target any cargo carrying weapons for Ukraine.
Moscow claims that it began its “Special Military Operation” in February with the intention of “de-Nazifying” its neighbor and defending the pro-Russian population in the eastern Ukrainian regions of Luhansk and Donetsk from Kyiv’s persecution.
Russia maintains that Moscow was compelled to take action against Kyiv as a result of the West’s anti-Russian agendas, such as its eagerness to include Ukraine in NATO and, as a result, expand the military alliance all the way to Russia’s borders.
