US “inhumane” health sector sanctions: Syria calls for immediate international intervention

Syria calls for immediate international intervention and condemns the “inhumane” US health sector sanctions; the new “inhumane measures” fall within the context of Washington’s cruel and unethical blockade against the Syrian nation, according to the Syrian foreign ministry, which also called for immediate international action and condemned the United States for targeting its health sector with unilateral sanctions.

The ministry said in a statement that the US Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) sanctions make it difficult for Syria to import medical equipment and spare parts for many public and private hospitals.

The General Authority for Children’s Hospital in Damascus, the country’s capital, is one of the targeted hospitals, according to the Syrian foreign ministry.

Since no party is exempt from unilateral coercive measures, Washington’s erroneous claims that medical supplies and medicines were immune from the illegal sanctions were rejected.

It demanded that the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the United Nations take swift action to end such sanctions.

Since March 2011, foreign-backed militancy has been raging in Syria. The Daesh terrorist organization was defeated by the Syrian government, but Takfiri terrorist organizations continue to control parts of the country with support from Western powers.

The United States has been implicated in transferring Daesh terrorists to the war-ravaged nation and even airlifting supplies to the group, according to numerous reports.

Despite Syria’s difficult recovery and reconstruction efforts, the US government has imposed severe economic sanctions on the country.

The Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act, which was signed into law by former president Donald Trump, targeted people and businesses involved in Syria’s economy, either directly or indirectly.

The restrictive measures have hindered the Syrian people’s ability to obtain food, heating, gas, electricity, medical supplies, and essential goods through imports.
