In an effort to get a battalion of approximately 500 troops back on the battlefield in the next five to eight weeks to defend against Russian forces, the US military has launched an expanded training program for Ukrainian troops in Germany.

Mark Milley, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated that the training began on Sunday while he was on a flight from Washington to Europe.

He stated that for five to six weeks, approximately 500 soldiers will undergo the initial training at the Grafenwoehr Training Area in Germany.

He stated that they have access to the entire arsenal of weapons and equipment in Germany.

Milley stated, “It will take a little bit of time.” Five, six, seven, or eight weeks? Let’s see what transpires here. However, given its importance, the time is now.

He stated, “We want the Ukrainians to be able to successfully defend their country.”

He added, “Ukraine is only defending itself, and they are trying to liberate Ukraine, which is occupied by Russia.”

Milley stated that the objective is to deliver all incoming weapons and equipment to Ukraine so that the newly trained forces can use them “before the spring rains show up.” That would be fantastic.”

Milley stated that he would travel to Germany to ensure that the training is on schedule, determine whether additional preparation is required, and coordinate it with the equipment deliveries.

Over 3,100 Ukrainian troops have already received instruction from the United States on how to operate and maintain various weapons and other equipment, such as armored vehicles, howitzers, and the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).

Since Russia launched what it calls a special military operation in Ukraine in February of last year, the United States and its Western allies have been providing Ukraine with an ever-growing list of weapons. The training comes at the same time.

The President Joe Biden administration approved a $3 billion transfer of weapons to Ukraine earlier this month.

50 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and motorized howitzer artillery are among the weapons in the US package.
