Klopp gives Mane extended holiday for winning AFCON, Salah to arrive Liverpool earlier

Mane and Salah are expected back in Liverpool this week after a run to the AFCON final

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champion Sadio Mane to arrive in Liverpool later in the week.

Mane led the Teranga Lions of Senegal to their first-ever AFCON title on Sunday in Cameroon, defeating Mohamed Salah’s Egypt on penalties.

Klopp expects that Salah should be back with the Liverpool squad as early as Monday while Mane could arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday.

“Tuesday or Wednesday latest the winner will be back, the other slightly earlier,” Klopp said before Liverpool’s FA Cup clash with Cardiff City.

The German tactician believes that both players will be able to jump straight into action since they have match fitness from playing at the AFCON.

Liverpool’s next match is at home against Leicester City in the Premier League on Thursday, February 10, 2022.
