At 10 AM on Thursday morning, Israel stopped everything as it does every year when sirens were sounded in remembrance of the 6 million Jews exterminated by Nazis and their accomplices during the Holocaust.
Sirens ring out for two minutes, PM says ‘nothing is comparable’
Wherever there were, Israelis interrupted their activities and in silence stood up and bowed their heads out of respect and remembrance for ‘Yom ha-Shoah’, a day of pain and mourning among the most solemn of the national calendar.
Along the streets and roads of the country, cars and buses stopped and got out in silence to stand in remembrance.
Starting on Wednesday evening, bars and restaurants closed and radio and television stations broadcast for the most part documentaries linked to the Holocaust.
The remembrance activities began at Yad Vashem, the Museum of Memory in Jerusalem, with an official ceremony in which six Holocaust survivors lit six flames in memory of the 6 million Jews killed.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said during this event that “the Holocaust did not have any precedents and even the worst wars of today are not the Holocaust nor are they comparable”.
The ceremonies will continue on Thursday both at Yad Vashem and the Knesset, the Israeli parliament.
