111-year-old Briton John Tinniswood is the oldest man in the world, Reuters reported on Friday.

As he says, his longevity is “simply lucky” because he has no secret when it comes to his diet. He admits that he likes eating fish and chips.

Tinniswood was born in 1912 in Merseyside in northern England. He is a retired accountant and former postal worker. He is currently 111 years and 222 days old.

When asked about the secret of his longevity, the Briton replied, “You either live a long life or you live a short life, and there’s not much you can do about it.”

“The world is always changing in its own way. It’s a kind of constant experience. It’s a little better, but not that much yet. Everything is going in the right direction,” he added.

He took over the title of the world’s oldest living man from 114-year-old Venezuelan, Juan Vicente Perez Mora, who died on April 2.

The oldest man in history was Japanese, Jiroemon Kimura, who lived to the age of 116 years and 54 days. The oldest living woman and the oldest person in the world is the Spanish, Maria Branyas Morera, at the age of 117.
