Jews protest against Israel

More than 10,000 Americans participated in a demonstration organized by Jewish Voice for Peace against Israel’s ongoing ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in front of the US Capitol.

Shortly after the demonstration began, police deployed in the Capitol area (US Congressional District) warned protesters to disperse, but people continued to chant in support of Palestinians, ignoring police warnings, and tried to enter the Congress building.

According to media reports, Washington police arrested 500 people, including 22 rabbis, who called for a ceasefire in Gaza inside and outside the US Congress. Also, more than 5 thousand American Jews and their supporters gathered in the National Mall. Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Cori Bush addressed the crowd.

Bush said, “We thank our Jewish community for coming here and saying ‘No to Genocide.’ The protest comes just two days after Jewish activists blocked all entrances to the White House and called on Biden to support a ceasefire.

At this protest rally, American police arrested dozens of pro-Palestinian Jews in Washington DC to protest against the United States government’s policies in support of Israel. All of them have been accused of blocking the entrance to the White House.

The protest was organized by two American Jewish groups “If Not Now” and “Jewish Voice for Peace”. The group is made up of American Jewish activists who oppose Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.

The organization, known as “If Not Now”, reported on social media that White House Secret Service police had arrested pro-Palestinian Jewish protesters under the pretext that they had stormed and blocked all entrances to the White House.

The protesters, many of whom wore black T-shirts with “Not in our name” written on them, were surrounded by police and detained while sitting on the floor of the lobby of the Congress building. During the protest they hoisted a large banner reading “ceasefire” and the number of civilians killed in recent Israeli attacks on Gazans.

Protesters marched from Farragut Square in Washington DC to the White House. They were holding placards with slogans such as “Jews say ceasefire now” and “Stop the massacre in Gaza”.

Many Jewish protesters who participated in this demonstration said that they had come from New York City to participate in this demonstration. They told ABC News that the Joe Biden government’s handling of the crisis was “shameful” and “disastrous.” They also criticized the conservative Israeli cabinet for the massacre in Gaza.

The group “Jewish Voice for Peace” announced that about 10,000 people also marched for this purpose in the streets of the United States capital. The Jewish organization wrote on its official account on the X social network (formerly Twitter):

“We shut down Congress to draw public attention to the complicity of the United States in Israel’s ongoing oppression of Palestinians.”

The group described Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip as genocide and demanded that the bombing of civilians in Gaza be stopped as soon as possible. Jay Saper, a member of the group Jewish Voice for Peace, said that Jews and all people of the United States must stand up against this oppression and injustice with all the tools they have.
