Syria crisis and suspension from Arab Leauge

A few months after the start of the Syrian crisis on November 12, 2011, some Arab countries, such as the then government of Qatar and Saudi Arabia, decided to suspend Syria’s membership in the Arab League meetings.

The excuse of some Arab officials for suspending the Syrian seat in the Arab League meetings was the accusation of the Syrian government of suppressing the people. Some Arab countries also suspended and closed their political and even consular missions in Syria.

But today, after about twelve years since the beginning of the crisis and the failure of the overthrow project in Syria and Bashar al-Assad remaining in power, the Arab League plans to cancel this suspension of Syria’s membership in a meeting at the level of foreign ministers. The interesting point is that some officials in Damascus say that they did not request to return to the Arab institution, but this is the desire of these Arab countries themselves.
