TENNIS Winners emerge at CBN Junior Tennis championship

Etoro Bassey, Aina Henry, Aina Goodnews, Chidubem Amassiani, Mufu Atilola, and David Edwards emerged as winners in different categories.

Winners have emerged at the annual junior Central Bank Tennis (CBN) tournament in Lagos.

Etoro Bassey, Aina Henry, Aina Goodnews, Chidubem Amassiani, Mufu Atilola, and David Edwards emerged as winners in different categories.

The oldest National Tournament in Nigeria was earlier postponed over Naira Scarcity.

The championship was held at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.

Winners in different Category

In the Girls’ U-16 category, Etoro Bassey defeated Eunice Orolumun, 9-5, to win the category.

Bassey started playing tennis two years ago and has featured in several local and regional tournaments, she also won the MTN Junior and Azimuth Shipping Lines tennis tournaments last year and was a doubles winner at the AJC tournament held in Togo earlier this year.

In the U-16 Boys, Aina Henry claimed the gold after defeating Lagos-based Joseph Ogunyemi, 9-0.

Aina Goodnewswon the Girls U-14 while David Edwards won the Boys U-14.

All of the winners received trophies and racquets, while the runners-up received personalized backpacks and trophies as well.

Godwin Kienka, ITA Director, thanked the sponsors and competitors for their efforts while delivering the trophies and presents. He also promised that the tournament will return in a bigger and better format with the following edition.

The Diara Dancers, champions of the Glo Battle of the Year dancing competition, performed at the well-attended grand finale, which also included Dr. Hassan Mahmud, director of the Monetary Policy Department, and Dr. Abdulmumin Isa, acting director of Corporate Communications.
