An Israeli-owned tanker was targeted last week by Iranian naval vessels and apparent suicide drones in the Arabian Sea, according to a report Friday.

BBC Persian says Campo Square, which belongs to Eyal Ofer’s Zodiac Maritime Company, was also targeted by naval vessels in attack last week

Citing a US military official and a regional military source, BBC Persian said the attack on the Campo Square involved several Iranian ships and drone.

The report said the attack did not cause significant damage to the Liberian-flagged ship.

According to the BBC, filings showed the Campo Square belongs to Zodiac Maritime Company, owned by Israeli shipping magnate Eyal Ofer. Zodiac said in response that the tanker is managed by a Greek company.

The military source was quoted saying the attack could signal an “intensification of Iran’s threatening actions against shipping in the region.”

The source also told the reporter that Iran itself carried out the attack.

The British Foreign Office said that it was working to clarify the matter, while stressing ships must be allowed to navigate freely.

According to a report, Iranian drones hit an oil tanker operated by a company owned by Israeli billionaire businessman Eyal Ofer in the Arabian Sea last Friday, according to a report by BBC in Farsi.

A high-ranking American military official told BBC that the Iranian drones attacked the tanker, owned by Zodiac Maritime. An Israeli security source confirmed the details of the report.

This is not the first time Iran has struck an Israeli owned oil tanker in international waters. In 2022, an Iranian Shahed-series one-way attack drone attacked an oil tanker associated with Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer off the coast of Oman.

“The unmanned aerial vehicle attack against a civilian vessel in this critical maritime strait demonstrates, once again, the destabilizing nature of Iranian malign activity in the region,” said General Michael “Erik” Kurilla, commander of the U.S. Central Command.
