British promise to transfer Afghans from Kabul to London not fulfilled

It’s been almost a year and a half since the British government promised to resettle some 20,000 at-risk Afghan nationals in London. Now the government of this country has confirmed that it has not accepted any Afghan citizens so far.

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on August 18, 2021, that the country plans to accept 20,000 at-risk and Afghan nationals, including judges, women’s rights activists, academics, journalists, women, and girls at risk, and ethnic and Religious minorities.

The British government at the time claimed that with 5,000 arrivals in Britain in the first year, a resettlement scheme for Afghan nationals would be launched and would provide legal and safe passage to England for those who needed assistance.

But according to BBC Radio 4, the British government has now confirmed that no Afghan nationals have been transferred to the UK through the resettlement scheme since then.

Meanwhile, a representative of the British Parliament “Carolyn Lucas” has also condemned the government of this country for its failure and lack of commitment in implementing the plan.

On the other hand, according to some reports, only four Afghan nationals have been resettled in England till the end of September last year.

These people have been nominated by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, but none of the workings of the Afghan national for the British government or its associates has not yet been transferred to the UK.

Recall that with the return of the Taliban in Afghanistan, England had transferred about 14,000 people from Kabul airport to England through the Emergency Evacuation Program by the end of August 2021, but after that, this evacuation process has been stopped.
