Saudi Minister of Agriculture reveals the amount of food waste in the Kingdom annually

The Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Grain Corporation, Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli, revealed the annual food waste rate in Saudi Arabia.

According to the news website Tawasul: Al-Fadhli explained that the percentage of food waste has reached more than 33%, while the cost of food waste is 40 billion riyals annually.

He stressed the importance of reaching a highly effective mechanism to reduce the amount of food lost and wasted, through everyone’s solidarity in balancing the purchase of food and remembering the value of food and the sanctity of waste.

Al-Fadhli noted the need to increase the awareness of producers and consumers to reduce the effects of these losses on health, the environment and the economy.
