The Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola has been shut.
Authorities of the College announced the shutdown and yesterday, even as it urged all students to leave the campus immediately. The closure was the aftermath of a violent protest by the students over water scarcity.
The students, who said the campus, located in central Jimeta area of Yola, had not had water for many days besides unreliable power supply, decided to protest against the situation.
Sources among the students said what was meant to be a peaceful protest went out of control as some of them began to vandalise valuable assets.
Management of the college said yesterday that the issue of water scarcity resulted from a breakdown of the college’s main water source.
