Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, issued an Emiri order on Sunday after about six months of his assumption of office, introducing Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah as the crown prince of this country.

The official Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, reported that Article Two of the Emiri Order stipulates that the Prime Minister must “present this order of ours to the Council of Ministers to take appropriate constitutional measures,” provided that this order enters into force immediately upon its issuance, according to the statement. Article Three.

The appointment of a crown prince in Kuwait comes three weeks after the Emir of the country’s decision to dissolve the National Assembly and suspend the work of some articles of the constitution for a period of four years, following a political crisis that led to the faltering announcement of the government’s formation, after announcing the results of the parliamentary elections that took place on the fourth. According to a report, Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has issued a decree to appoint Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah as the Crown Prince of Kuwait, the Kuwait State Television reported on Saturday.

Born in 1953 in Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah previously served as prime minister in the country from 2019 to 2022.

Graduating from Kuwait University with a degree in political science, the new crown prince also once served as Kuwait’s permanent representative to the United Nations, ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and foreign minister.

Sheikh Mishal became Kuwait’s 17th ruler on Dec. 16, 2023, succeeding his half-brother, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who passed away at the age of 86.

According to the Kuwaiti constitution, Mishal must name a new crown prince within one year.
