1. A glass of milk before bed
For years we have believed that a glass of warm milk will help us fall asleep and we like to drink it just before going to bed. This drink really has a relaxing effect on us because it contains a lot of tryptophan. Unfortunately, it also has a lot of calories.
That innocent glass of milk every evening, without taking into account its calorie content, can end up with a belly fat quite quickly. Choosing skim milk won’t help much. This is still a large energy charge given when the body should be regenerating and not using energy.
2. Browsing social media
Scrolling the screen before falling asleep is another bad idea. The blue light emitted by screens effectively makes it difficult to fall asleep, disrupts the circadian rhythm and suppresses the production of melatonin.
This habit can quickly lead you to the fridge or sweets cabinet. Another mechanism will also work to your detriment. When you don’t sleep as much as you should, hormonal disruptions begin to occur, which leads to metabolic disorders. Effect: storage of fat tissue.
3. Drinking coffee too late
Caffeine can also contribute to unwanted pounds. If we drink too much coffee or drink it too late, we again risk sleep problems. According to scientists, coffee drunk six hours before bed time may have such a negative impact on the body. As it turns out, healthy sleep is also associated with weight gain.
According to experts from Harvard, sleep deficit is associated with increased levels of ghrelin, i.e. the so-called hunger hormone. Unfortunately, this greatly promotes weight gain.
4. Watching TV into the night
A movie marathon or maybe another episode of the series? Watching your favourite movies or programmes in the evenings can be very addictive, but it can also be beneficial to your stomach.
First, it disrupts the circadian rhythm. Secondly, it promotes night snacking, which usually ends with unhealthy and fattening snacks. If we add a sudden craving for chips or ice cream that tempts us during a commercial, the calculation is simple.
5. Eating before bed
Eating anything at night is always a bad idea. Dietitians and experts have no doubt that we should give the body time to deal with the last meal eaten before the night.
When you sleep, your body cannot deal with digestion, it has other important tasks. It’s a time of regeneration. When you force your body to digest on the second shift, the energy provided is usually stored as fat for later use.
Eating too late has a negative impact on glycemic control, i.e. regulating blood sugar levels and metabolising fats. Other negative effects include heartburn and indigestion, which will make it difficult for you to fall asleep.
After a bad night’s sleep, you will be rewarded with unhealthy cravings and greater hunger the next day. It’s really not worth it.
