The president of the Palestinian Authority (PA) launched a tirade against the Israeli government and its ongoing occupation of the Palestinian territories and aggression against Palestinians while speaking to the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
According to Mahmoud Abbas, who spoke to the Assembly in New York on Thursday, “My message today to the Israelis is that regardless of their ambitions and delusions, this hideous occupation against us will not last, because the Palestinian people are remaining on their land, which they have inhabited for thousands of years, generation after generation.”
He continued, “They cannot leave their land, and if anyone has to leave, it has to be the occupiers and usurpers.
After seizing vast tracts of Palestinian territory during a conflict backed by the West, the Israeli regime declared its existence in 1948.
In another such war in 1967, it took over more territory, specifically the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East al-Quds.
Since then, it has erected countless illegal settlements on the seized lands and imposed the harshest restrictions possible on the local Palestinian population.
Tel Aviv withdrew from Gaza in 2005, but since a year after it left the coastal sliver, it has kept the coastal region under a total land, aerial, and naval siege and has conducted regular deadly strikes.
The PA president criticized the Israeli government for enforcing “apartheid policies on our people under occupation.”
“My message to the international community is that it should fully embrace its obligations and implement its resolutions related to realizing Palestinian rights,” Abbas said.
Every anti-Tel Aviv resolution at the UN Security Council has been blocked by the United States, Israel’s largest and most steadfast ally.
The US’s unwavering support for Israel has been criticized by Palestinians, who claim that as long as Tel Aviv has Washington’s backing, the UN resolutions pertaining to Palestine will not be carried out.
Abbas continued by blaming Israel for the impasse that has plagued negotiations regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. He made reference to the negotiations breaking down in 2014 as a result of Tel Aviv’s continued illegal construction activities on Palestinian territory.
“Whoever believes peace in the Middle East is possible before our people have attained their full national rights is delusional,” he declared.”
