After Washington approved a new military aid package for Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), China’s defense ministry issued a warning to the US warning against continuing down a “wrong and dangerous” path.
After the US announced an additional $345 million in military aid for the self-governing island, the Defense Ministry’s spokesperson Tan Kefei demanded that all “military collusion” with Taiwan cease immediately.
The statement continued, “The Taiwan issue is a red line that cannot be crossed in China-US relations because it affects China’s core interests.”

The package, which can cost up to $1 billion, was unveiled on Friday as part of the 2023 budget’s authorization by Congress to provide Taiwan with weapons assistance. Further emphasized in the statement was the fact that China’s People’s Liberation Army is constantly on high alert and closely monitoring the circumstances in the Taiwan Strait.
Taipei is entirely under Chinese control. While acknowledging that sovereignty, the US frequently transgresses its own stated policy. Beijing and Washington have grown increasingly enraged over the island.
China has consistently warned the US and other states to avoid cooperating with the island’s self-declared government and opposes other nations’ efforts to establish official and diplomatic ties with Taipei.
Washington, which is the island’s top supplier of weapons and a steadfast supporter of Taiwan’s secessionist President Tsai Ing-wen, does not have formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan as required by law.
Following the announcement of the arms aid for the island, Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, accused the US of turning Taiwan into an “ammunition depot” in a statement on Saturday.

In an editorial published on Saturday, the government-run China Daily newspaper claimed that Washington is igniting the conflict by selling weapons to Taiwan.
Furthermore, as part of its containment policy toward China, Washington appears to be attempting to export war to the Asia-Pacific, as evidenced by the recently announced weapons package.
