New Islamic Calendar, 1445 AH: Tinubu Calls For Prayers For Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has taken advantage of the Muslim New Islamic Year, to ask Nigerians to pray for the country.

The new Islamic year, which starts with the month of ‘Muharram’ is one of the four sacred months of the year when warfare is forbidden.

Muharram, to Muslims, has two views; firstly to some Muslims, it is a month of celebration and rejoicing, while to some Muslims it is the month of mourning the ground son of the prophet that was mastered on the 10th of Muharram.

Tinubu called for prayers on Wednesday and urged Nigerians to have patience as his government battles the various challenges Nigeria is facing.

This occurred right after Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke declared on Tuesday that today, Wednesday, would be a public holiday for Muslims to celebrate the new year. Today has been declared a public holiday in several other states, including Kano, Oyo, Sokoto, Zamfara, Bauchi, Kebbi, and Jigawa.

The President stated that prayers were necessary due to the situation in Nigeria in a statement congratulating Muslims on the occasion of Hijrah.
“I enjoin you to remain hopeful that there is light at the end of the tunnel as we persevere and struggle to confront our present challenges, and the temporary pains we experience,” Tinubu told Nigerians.

He assured them that his team is doing its due diligence and stated that he is well aware of the commitments he made to Nigerians to uphold good governance.

The President urged Muslims to uphold the virtues of endurance and loyalty as his administration works to bring Nigerians the benefits of democracy.
The Islamic prophet Muhammad and his followers traveled from Mecca to Medina during the Hijrah or Hijra. The Hijrah occurred in the year known as the epoch of the Lunar Hijri and Solar Hijri calendars, whose date corresponds to 16 July 622 in the Julian calendar.”
