First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu to host Super Falcons ahead of FIFA World Cup

Prior to the Super Falcons’ departure for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, will attend the send-forth dinner of the team along with other top government officials.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup is scheduled to run from July 20 to August 20.

The dinner, hosted by the national football association, will take place on Saturday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, according to a statement released on Thursday by the NFF’s head of communications, Ademola Olajire.

The Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development’s Permanent Secretary, Ismaila Abubakar, as well as other top sports officials, are among those we expect.
Along with the rank and file of the NFF, led by the President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and the General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, a sizable number of the team, as well as technical and administrative officials, are anticipated.

The event at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel will also draw top business executives, diplomats, and a variety of football stakeholders.

“The nine-time African champions will leave Nigeria on Sunday for a 15-day camping trip in Australia before setting up camp for the competition, which runs from July 20 to August. 20,” Olajire stated.
Nigeria will play Canada in the tournament’s opening game on July 21 at Melbourne’s Rectangular Stadium before facing Australia and the Republic of Ireland at Lang Park in Brisbane on July 27 and July 31, respectively.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand in 2023 will be the biggest ever because they will feature 32 teams, the same number that competed in the men’s finals in Qatar the previous year.
It is also the first FIFA senior competition ever to be hosted by two nations from two different confederations: Australia in the Asian confederation and New Zealand in Oceania.

Together with Marta of Brazil and Christine Sinclair of Canada, Onome Ebi, the captain of Nigeria, will be among the tournament’s oldest players at the age of 40.

They will compete in their sixth FIFA Women’s World Cup competition.

The Australian High Commission will reportedly host the Falcons to dinner, courtesy of the Ag, 24 hours prior to the Send-Forth at the Transcorp Hilton. Leanne Johnston, High Commissioner, please.

The Super Falcons are reportedly in Group “B” with Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland.
At the FIFA World Cup, Nigeria has previously faced off against the women’s national teams of Canada and Australia.

Despite drawing 3-3 in 1995 and losing 1-0 in 2011, the Canadians have never been able to defeat Nigeria at the World Cup.

Australia defeated Nigeria 2-0 in their matchup at the 2015 FIFA World Cup.
