A good step has been taken by eliminating the fuel subsidy.
President Bola Tinubu has received praise for his audacious decision to end fuel subsidies from a group called Global Amnesty Watch.
The group claims that the President exhibited strong political will and a desire to courageously address the nation’s problems, freeing it from the control of fuel importers and marketers.
This was stated by the GAW in its country situation report, which was released to the public on Thursday in Abuja and signed by its director, Isaac Ikpa.
The removal of the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit was announced, according to the report, and was “one of the crucial decisions taken by the Bola Tinubu administration.”
“The Global Amnesty Watch applauds the decision, which resonates with the necessity of time given that the subsidy regime was not sustainable and fraught with irregularities that take a significant portion of the country’s resources, amounting to trillions of naira.
“The elimination of the gasoline subsidy is a step in the right direction. It was a sign of the country’s political resolve and desire to take bold action to overcome its problems and break free from the control of fuel importers and marketers.
It is a declaration that President Bola Tinubu’s choice is one that will help the nation’s economy. This is in light of the fact that money saved by eliminating the subsidy would go to other industries pleading for attention.
Ikpa asserts that the decisions made thus far demonstrate a readiness to address Nigeria’s socioeconomic challenges and have revived hope in the nation’s pursuit of long-term growth and development.
He continued by saying that the President’s recent trip to France shows that Nigeria is once again rising on the global scene and that the international community has already shown a willingness to cooperate with the country in ways that are obvious.
Regarding the economy, the report added: “The measures taken so far, including the suspension of the Central Bank governor and the reversal of some monetary policies, boosted investors’ confidence and the ensuing improvements in the economic rating of the country”.
“The Global Amnesty Watch recognizes the necessity of the economic decisions made thus far and their effects on the economy. In order to address the nation’s economic challenges, President Bola Tinubu is aware of the economic repercussions of inaction.”
The National Security Adviser as well as the new service chiefs were praised in the report for changing the security architecture.
According to punch News Paper, Ikpa remarked that “the quality of the appointments was top-notch as it reflected balance and competence,” adding that the President has taken the necessary actions to address the security challenges in the nation.
However, he tasked the current administration with ensuring the formulation and implementation of policies and initiatives that would benefit all Nigerians, regardless of their racial or religious affiliations.
