The police have been investigating the deadly blast that has killed over 100.

According to the police, it is possible the suicide bomber had internal assistance evading security checks, Reuters reported.

Peshawar is a northwestern city near the Afghan border.

The blast took place when worshippers were offering Zuhur or afternoon prayers.

The mosque was built for the police and their families living in a highly fortified area.

“We have found some excellent clues, and based on these clues we have made some major arrests,” Peshawar Police Chief Ijaz Khan told Reuters.

“We can’t rule out internal assistance but since the investigation is still in progress, I will not be able to share more details,” he added.

The bomber has used at least 12 kilograms of explosives, the police suspect. The bomb caused a part of the mosque to collapse.

Initially, TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban) officials Sarbakaf Mohmand and Omar Mukaram Khurasani claimed the attack saying, it was “revenge” for the death of TTP militant Khalid Khorasani last year.

But the TTP’s main spokesperson, Muhammad Khorasani, later denied the group was involved in the attack, CNN reported.
