The Director-General of the National Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Javad Mohammadi said that Iran has the largest variety of biotechnology products in Asia.
Speaking in a ceremony held on Thursday on the occasion of the Students’ Day and the graduation ceremony of a number of Ph.D students the Research Institute, Mohammadi emphasized that Islamic Republic of Iran has the most various number of biotechnology products in the Asian region.
Turning to the current situation of biotechnology in the country, Mohammadi stated producing products with high food safety should be placed as top priorities of the country and in this way, the Research Institute of Genetics has always been a pioneer in this respect.
You may recall that last year, the Secretary of Biotechnology Development Headquarters of Iran’s Vice Presidency for Science and Technology said that Iran is in the first place of biotechnology products in West Asia.
Mostafa Ghanei said that “The achievement of the first place in the production of biotechnology items and vaccines in West Asia, being placed among the 5 countries producing biotechnology products in Asia, the establishment of innovation centers, the accomplishment of the twelfth scientific rank in the world and first in the region are the achievements of the Iranian researchers in the field of biology.”

“358 products worth $ 894 million are also supported by the biotechnology development headquarters in the field of medicine, raw materials, and pharmaceutical supplies,” he added.
He further said that the department supported the production of three corona vaccines worth $ 353 million developed by the Biotechnology Development Headquarters.
