Erdogan: Turkey not silent in face of violating Iran’s rights

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has emphasized that Turkey has never kept mute when it came to the violation of Iran’s rights.

Erdogan made the remarks in a meeting with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Tehran on Tuesday, felicitating the Leader on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and Eid Ghadir, the president emphasized on the need for unity among Muslim nations as well as expansion of solidarity between the two neighboring states.

Turkey has never kept silent when it came to the violation of Iranians’ rights, he said, adding that brotherhood and friendship between Iranian and Turkish nations should develop in all fields.

Ankara always rejects the imposition of unilateral sanctions on Iran, the president said, arguing that Turkey will support Iranians’ legitimate expectations from the 2015 nuclear deal, and that his government promotes Turkish companies to invest in Iran.

Pointing to involvement of Iran and Turkey in fighting terrorism for long years, he said that terrorist groups in Syria are being aided and abetted by certain Western states such as Germany, Britain, France and especially the United States, the Turkish president mentioned.

Turkey’s stance on the territorial integrity of Syria is completely clear, he said, noting that he expects the Syrian government to kick off political negotiations and moves.

The Astana peace summit is a platform to put on the agenda the issue of Syria specifically, Erdogan stated, adding that he hopes the summit will end up with good results.
