Iran’s foreign ministry announced the death of its ambassador to Yemen due to the Covid-19, saying he had returned to Iran in “unfavorable” circumstances due to “late cooperation from some countries.”

Saeed Khatibzadeh, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, announced the death of Hassan Irloo, the former ambassador of the Islamic Republic, to Corona on Tuesday morning, December 21st.

According to Khatibzadeh, “due to the late cooperation of some regional countries, he unfortunately returned to the country in unfavorable conditions and died using all the steps of treatment to improve the disease he could not survive.”

Hassan Irloo, the (former) Iranian ambassador to Sanaa, left Sanaa on Saturday (December 18th) after a late exemption from an air blockade imposed by the Saudi-led Arab League.

A senior Saudi official said the flight was mediated by Iraq and Oman at the request of Yemeni Houthi rebels and with the consent of Saudi officials.

It seems that the time spent for mediation and the delay of the Saudi officials in deciding to agree to the flight of the Iranian ambassador’s plane has made his situation critical and despite many efforts of the medical staff to improve the disease, he could not be saved
