These five players have linked with a move to St. James’ Park in January After the £300m takeovers of Newcastle United, the Magpies are expected to splurge a lot of cash in the January transfer window. The English club has already brought in former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe and will be looking to bring in players soon.
Newcastle is also facing relegation and which puts them in dire need of reinforcements to boost their chances of remaining in the English top flight. A number of names have been linked with a move to St. James’ Park. While many of these players will not be looking forward to fighting a relegation battle with Newcastle, they would be enticed by the big wages the club would offer.
Here are five players that have linked with a move to Newcastle in January.
1. Aaron Ramsey
It has been reported that Eddie Howe wants to make Ramsey one of his first signings. However, he will face stiff competition from Everton, who also want to land the Juventus midfielder. Aaron Ramsey commands a £400,000-a-week salary at Juventus and will reportedly cost Everton or Newcastle £42m in wages, even if he joins on a free transfer in January.

2. Axel Witsel
The Belgian midfielder is another player that Newcastle is looking to sign. The 32-year-old is an experienced central midfielder and would add a lot to the current Newcastle squad. Axel Witsel could bid Borussia Dortmund farewell ahead of a possible January transfer.
3. Umar Sadiq
Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq has been linked to a dozen clubs after his blistering form in the Spanish second division. Almeria has reportedly set a £60m price tag for Umar Sadiq. Newcastle United is lacking goals this season and will look to land the Nigeria striker as soon as possible.
4. Kieran Trippier
Media reports have suggested that Eddie Howe is eager to sign Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier to the club next year. The right-back was strongly linked with joining Manchester United over the summer, but the Red Devils could not reach an agreement with Atletico over a transfer fee. Newcastle United has the money and would possibly sign Trippier in January.
5. Darwin Nunez
Last month, it was reported that Newcastle have entered the race to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez. However, the Magpies will face competition from Real Madrid and Man City, who are also looking to sign the Uruguayan. Nonetheless, Newcastle United will be willing to spend more than City or Madrid in this window and could reach an agreement with Benfica soon.
