Lebanon: Hezbollah conducts its deadliest attack on Israel this year

According to reports from Israeli media on Sunday night, three soldiers were killed and at least forty were injured when a drone detonated at a Golani Division military facility located in central occupied lands, south of Haifa.

Israeli officials have said three Israeli soldiers died, and two dozen others were injured after Hezbollah rocket strike on southern Haifa.

The attack is reported by Haaretz to have taken place in a barrack in a district called Binyamina in the south of Haifa.

A kamikaze drone has caused the explosion fired from Lebanon by Hezbollah forces. Some reports suggest that 30 soldiers were injured in the attack.

Occupying Army Radio has reported that 3 soldiers were killed and 24 others were injured, with 9 in critical condition in the Hezbollah drone attack.

As many as 50 ambulances have been dispatched to the site of the blast.

Haaretz has said the number of wounded soldiers increased to 39, 4 critically.

Reports say the recent attack has been the “deadliest drone attack” on Israel by Hezbollah over the past year

It was earlier reported that, rescue workers searched for survivors on Friday after Israeli strikes on central Beirut the day before killed at least 22 civilians and injured around 117 others. The operation marked the deadliest attack on the Lebanese capital since Oct. 8, 2023, when Hezbollah joined Hamas in its fight against Israel.

Thursday’s strikes reportedly targeted Wafiq Safa, the head of Hezbollah’s liaison and coordination unit, which is responsible for working with Lebanese government officials. Neither Israel nor Hezbollah have commented on Safa’s status, although reports suggest that he was severely wounded but survived.

Israel’s offensive in southern Lebanon has drawn renewed international condemnation after an Israeli attack injured two United Nations peacekeepers, one seriously. The operation targeted an observation tower at the U.N. mission’s headquarters in Naqoura, where the Israeli military said there was an “immediate threat.”

This was the second time in two days that an Israeli attack has injured U.N. peacekeepers. “Any deliberate attack on peacekeepers is a grave violation of international humanitarian law,” the U.N. mission in Lebanon warned. On Friday, Lebanon also accused Israel of killing two of its soldiers in the area, and Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati appealed for a U.N. resolution that orders an “immediate” cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah.
