Global Reactions to the Killing of Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah

The Palestinian group Hamas expressed its sorrow over the passing of Lebanon’s Hezbollah leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, stating that his death would only bolster the militant group’s resistance efforts.

In a statement, Hamas remarked, “Crimes and assassination by the occupation will only increase the determination and insistence of the resistance in Palestine and Lebanon to move forward with all their might, bravery, and pride in the footsteps of the martyrs.”

Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged Muslims on Saturday to support the people of Lebanon and Hezbollah by any means necessary to confront what he termed the “wicked regime” of Israel.

Highlighting the significance of Hezbollah in the region, Khamenei was quoted by state media, saying, “The fate of this region will be determined by the forces of resistance, with Hezbollah at the forefront,” following Israel’s claim of having killed Nasrallah.

The Houthis, a Yemeni group allied with Hezbollah against Israel, vowed to persist in their fight. The group stated, “The resistance will not be broken, and the Jihadist spirit of the Mujahideen brothers in Lebanon and on all fronts of support will grow stronger and bigger.”

Russia’s foreign ministry condemned Israel’s actions, calling for a halt to hostilities in Lebanon and warning that such forceful measures could lead to dire consequences for both Lebanon and the Greater Middle East. “This forceful action is fraught with even greater dramatic consequences for Lebanon and the entire Middle East,” the statement read.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas extended his condolences to Lebanon and Hezbollah, expressing his heartfelt sympathy to the Lebanese government and people over the civilian casualties caused by ongoing Israeli aggression, as reported by the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.

Former Lebanese President Michel Aoun, in his mourning of Nasrallah, highlighted the dangers Lebanon faces due to Israeli actions, urging a heightened level of national solidarity to ensure unity, which he deemed essential for salvation.

Former Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri described Nasrallah’s assassination as an event that has engulfed Lebanon and the region in a new wave of violence.

He condemned the act as cowardly, reflecting on the high costs of political assassinations. “May God have mercy on Sayyed Hassan, and my sincere condolences to his family and comrades. While we often disagreed with the deceased and his party, Lebanon was everyone’s tent. In this extremely difficult phase, our unity and solidarity remain the foundation,” he stated.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani remarked that Nasrallah’s killing exemplified a reckless approach to expanding conflict, endangering the security and stability of all peoples in the region.
