An explosion struck Mogadishu’s popular Liido beach evening, sending shockwaves through the Somali capital.
The blast was followed by gunfire, prompting police to fear casualties and rush to the scene.
According to Police Official Ahmed Abdi, officers from various law enforcement agencies and security agencies were quickly dispatched to the beach, which is home to several hotels and frequented by civilians, security officials, and businesspeople.
The attack site has been sealed off, and authorities are still working to determine the exact cause of the explosion. However, Abdi suggested that it appears to be a suicide attack, with the sound of gunfire near the beach indicating potential casualties.
As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group, has been linked to recent attacks in Somalia.
The incident is currently under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the extent of the damage and potential casualties.
