The animal recently gave birth to a cub, and its death was caused by irresponsible zoo visitors who, despite the ban, fed the animals.
“Today was supposed to be a cheerful post about little goats and their happy mothers, but it won’t be.
As a result of acute poisoning, we said goodbye to the Sandomierz goat yesterday; she left behind two little babies, whose survival we are now fighting for,” the Lublin zoo said on Thursday.
The zoo in Lubin appeals not to feed the animals
According to zoo employees, the animal’s death was the result of feeding by visitors. “You are not allowed to feed animals in the zoo . We hope that the hand of the one who couldn’t stop feeding will wither,” we read in an entry published on Facebook.
The case arouses great emotions among internet users. There were many comments under the post on Facebook.
“I go to the park several times a week, very often I warn someone that they must not feed the animals with anything. There are signs everywhere. And people tear the grass, leaves, sometimes throw their food. They either do not respond to the warnings or laugh at me.
Yesterday, from a distance, I witnessed an adult man giving some leaves to a little donkey, but luckily she didn’t take it. Her hands were falling,” writes one of the outraged internet users.
“I think it would be good if employees sometimes walked among the visitors and gave warnings,” adds another.
The Sandomierz goat was close to extinction
The Sandomierz goat is one of three breeds of Polish goats, along with the Kazimierz goat and the Carpathian goat. The species was threatened with extinction, but thanks to the conservation programme it was saved.
A characteristic feature of the species is, among others, piebald colour. Sandomierz goats are one of the main attractions of this Lower Silesian zoo.
