Thousands of people packed New York City’s Union Square and surrounding streets on Friday after Kai Cenat a popular live streamer announced a “giveaway” event.
Police fans were struggling to control this crowd. According to the reports received so far, many people have been injured in the clash with the police and public and private property has been damaged. Many police personnel have also been injured.
The event was promoted by Kai Cenat, known for his live streams on gaming site Twitch and YouTube videos. He had earlier announced a “big gift” on his Instagram account for 4 p.m.
Before the program began, footage taken from helicopters showed people throwing bottles and chairs, climbing onto the roof of a subway entrance, standing on top of cars and unloading fire extinguishers.
Jeffrey Maddrey, the New York City Police Department’s highest-ranking uniformed officer, told reporters that police were questioning Kai Cenat and could face charges including inciting a riot.

Maddrey said it was too early to say how many people have been arrested, but police have filled a city bus with those detained.
“People in the park started attacking the police and the public, our officers have been attacked, pushed and trampled,” he told a news conference.
Some people set off fireworks, Maddrey said, while others attacked using equipment at the construction site. It was not immediately clear what sparked the chaos.
At one point in the video from TV news helicopters, Kai Cenat is seen standing in a black SUV, with her head sticking out of the moon roof, and bullets surround the car. As the car starts moving, one person falls down.
In a video posted on Thursday, Kai Cenat told his followers that the giveaway would include computers and PlayStation 5 consoles.
Kai Cenat, 21, has 6.5 million followers on Twitch and 4 million subscribers on YouTube. He was named “Streamer of the Year” in 2022 at the Streamy Awards.
