Judicial reform bill Netanyahu’s cabinet approved with 64 votes in favor

The judicial reform bill of Netanyahu’s cabinet was approved by the Israeli Knesset with 64 votes in favor, with no votes against, and no abstentions.

The “repeal of the reasonableness test” bill, as one of the pillars of judicial reforms considered by Netanyahu, practically makes it impossible for Israel’s Supreme Prosecutor’s Office to veto the decisions of Knesset representatives.

The judicial reforms proposed by Netanyahu were approved by the coalition so that the power of the Supreme Court in the Israeli regime, which could veto all cabinet and government approvals, was reduced and the power of the Prime Minister and the government increased in an unprecedented way. From now on, whatever law the Netanyahu government passes, no one can oppose it, and this law must be implemented.

In the shadow of such a power, which was approved with 64 votes in favor and despite the abstraction of the opposition parties, we will witness the passing of laws that will further isolate the opponents of the right-wing currents, from now on we will see laws aimed at further Judaizing Palestine, building settlements and other violent actions.

Ten of thousand Israeli protests against Israel’s extremist cabinet

More than 100,000 people gathered in the coastal city of Tel Aviv alone for the rallies on Saturday against the policies of the regime’s extremist cabinet, including a highly unpopular plan promoted by Netanyahu to reform Israel’s judicial system.

The goal of the so-called “judicial overhaul” plan is to deny the Israeli Supreme Court the authority to overturn legislative decisions made by the ruling party. Additionally, it aims to increase the Israeli cabinet’s influence over the selection of court judges.

Supporters claim the proposal will put an end to years of judicial overreach, while detractors claim it will eliminate crucial restraints on the political class’s ability to exercise power.
