Speaking after the league title was sealed with a win over fierce neighbouring rivals Espanyol, Laporta said, “Xavi has been decisive. His knowledge of football, knowledge of the club, and our style, it’s been crucial.
“He’s worked hard to ensure we play quality football. He deserves congratulations. We have a great coach and we’re very happy with him.”
Xavi redeems Barcelona season with League title
Xavi had come under some criticism earlier in the season when Barcelona crashed out of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the second season in a row, but the Spanish gaffer has turned the team’s season around with victories in the Supercopa de Espana and now LaLIga.
His team has been able to pick up 27 wins in 34 LaLiga games on their way to a first LaLiga title in four years, with impressive performances from goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, forward Robert Lewandowski, and a backline including Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, and Alejandro Balde who got one of the goals against Espanyol in the title decider.
