Umahi said the people of his state voted for the Labour Party in the presidential election because of the hardship in the country.
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has disclosed that his family conspired against him in the February 25 presidential election by voting for Peter Obi, an opposition candidate.
Umahi, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) cast his vote for Bola Tinubu while his family supported and voted for Obi of the Labour Party.
The governor made this known on Monday, April 17, 2023, during Channels Television’s interview.
According to him, the votes for the Labour Party in his state were protest votes they were not really cast for Obi, rather, they were cast for his party because of the hardship in the country.
“In all honesty, I didn’t give any chance to the Labour Party to win any election in my State (Ebonyi State) because what we have put in place was such that no other political party should be able to win anything, not even Councilorship election in my State. I saw the Labour Party vote as a protest against my Party (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
“I was very surprised; even in my family, there was a conspiracy against me. I did not know that they voted for Peter Obi, but in the other election, they voted for APC because of what we’ve done in the State.
“It was not a vote for His Excellency Peter Obi. As such, there is seemingly hardship and challenges in Nigeria”, he said.
In the February 25 elections, Umahi won the Ebonyi South Zone Senatorial seat and would leave his office as the governor of the state to represent the people of his senatorial district in the 10th national assembly.
