Reservations at Fiola Mare are likely to become more elusive after President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden chose to take French President Emmanuel Macron and first lady Brigitte Macron to the upscale Georgetown Italian seafood restaurant for dinner during their first state visit.
“President Biden and first lady Biden are dining with President Macron and his wife, Brigitte, at Fiola Mare on the Georgetown waterfront,” Axios pool reporter Hans Nichols told reporters Wednesday.
The Bidens last ate at the restaurant, a favorite of the first couple since the president’s vice presidency, last October when they were criticized for leaving without masks, defying the capital’s indoor mask mandate that was in place at the time.
“There are moments when we all don’t put masks back on as quickly as we should,” then-White House press secretary Jen Psaki said last fall. “But I don’t think we should lose the forest through the trees here.”

Emmanuel Macron toured NASA headquarters with Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday before his bilateral meeting, press conference, and state dinner with Joe Biden at the White House scheduled for Thursday. Jill Biden is scheduled to host an education-focused event at the interactive museum Planet Word with Brigitte Macron during the day.
Singer Jon Batiste, a New Orleans native, is slated to entertain the roughly 300 to 400 guests after their three-course dinner, which includes Maine lobster and American artisan cheeses and will be served in a pavilion erected on the White House South Lawn. The spectacle, which officials and outside evening planning and design production firm Fete started to organize two months ago, will be unified under a red, white, and blue theme, symbolizing the shared colors of the French and U.S. flags.
