For years, the United Nations Stabilization Mission (MINUSTAH) has often been an oppressive source of cruelty and exploit.

The mission of the United Nations troops in Haiti is to maintain peace during times of grave violence and to protect civilians under imminent threat of physical abuse. However, contrary to this mission statement, their role as “peacekeepers,” has had a tumultuous and controversial effect on Haiti from the start.
The lack of ethical practices exhibited by a handful of UN troops has caused widespread criticism and consequently, a strong appeal for an end to MINUSTAH’s occupation of Haiti. Since MINUSTAH’s inception in 2004, the United Nations troops have committed innumerable abhorrent crimes. During the past two years alone, there have been several disturbing accusations leveled against the UN troops in Haiti for their involvement in human rights violations.
These reports vary from physical torture, threats of death, sexual violence, and sexual coercion of minors. The most recent incident on July 18, involves the sadistic rape of a Haitian teen, which was captured and recorded on a mobile phone video.

What is worse is that these incidents are all marked by a failure by MINUSTAH and other officials to investigate and pursue these allegations. The fact that UN troops are not fully held accountable, as they are immune from prosecution or legal action in Haiti, further perpetuates this abusive cycle of violence.
This petition urges Haitian and international government officials to prevent, acknowledge, investigate and rectify the highly questionable actions of MINUSTAH soldiers in Haiti and demand that the UN Security Council not renew their mandate unless such actions are taken.
We are requesting the mobilization of all possible means to bring justice to the victims of such horrible and humiliating acts of violence, as well as put an end to the human rights abuses by MINUSTAH in Haiti.
