The ex-President thinks that Buhari has reached his performance limit. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is wondering why Nigerians are still expecting more from a 78-year-old President Muhammadu Buhari–likening it all to “kicking a dead horse.”
Speaking as leaders of socio-cultural organizations converged on Abuja for a retreat on inclusive security, Obasanjo was quoted by Punch newspaper as saying that:
“The truth is this: President Buhari has done his best; that is what he can do, if you expect anything than what he is doing, you are kicking a dead horse and there is no need.
“We must not fold our hands…How do we prepare for the post-Buhari era? Buhari has done his best.
“My prayer is that God will spare his life to see his term through but what do we have after Buhari? What should we do to make the post-Buhari era better than what we have now? That is our responsibility. It concerns all of us.”

Obasanjo has been one of President Buhari’s fiercest public critics, never missing an opportunity to call out the president at public forums or through open letters.
Obasanjo, 84, governed Nigeria as military Head of State from February 1976 to September 1979. He was elected civilian president and governed from 1999 to 2007.
Buhari was Nigeria’s military Head of State from December 1983 to August 1985. He was elected civilian president in 1999; with his constitutionally permissible two terms of eight years in office, set to elapse in the spring of 2023.\
