The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has visited victims of flood disaster in the Kirfi local government area of the state, where he donated relief materials to them in order to alleviate their plights.
No fewer than 13 persons so far have lost their lives while 24 others sustained injuries following the flood disaster that occurred in many communities of Bauchi state.
Although no life was lost in Kirfi LGA, over one hundred hectares of farmlands and houses were submerged in the incident with properties worth millions of naira destroyed.
Speaking during the visit to the area, Governor Bala Mohammed commiserated with victims of the flood disaster in the local government.
He said his administration would take inventory of all the losses for immediate action and would collaborate with relevant stakeholders in finding a lasting solution to the incessant flooding in the area.
Relief Materials
The Governor who visited some affected persons taking refuge at the Cheledi primary school in the area, said that the relief materials consist of two trailers of rice and maize, that the government was sending blankets and more relief items to them.
Governor Mohammed expressed concern over the magnitude of loss recorded by flood in the area.
Technical Committee
He said a technical committee would be constituted by his government to ascertain the extent of damage done, the number of victims affected by the flood and give them relief materials.

“I will form a Technical Committee that will design and enumerate in terms of engineering so that we can proffer solution to the perennial flood problem that is bedevilling this local area”
“From there, we will provide drainages and find what is causing the flood disaster, but let me remind you, you have a responsibility to desist from building on flood-prone areas to avoid a repeat of the disaster as witnessed here because if you do that, the river will always overflow. We will build drainages and roads in Kirfi town in a manner that this will not happen again” he said
Deployment of Health Officials
Governor Mohammed said that the government would deploy health officials to the area to prevent any outbreak of the epidemic.
He added that he had directed the ministry of health and environment and local government chairman to give a stock out measure in a manner that no cholera outbreak would be recorded in the local government.
