According to the Charities Aid Foundation’s (CAF) most recent World Giving Index, Indonesia is once again the most philanthropic country in the world. This is the sixth straight year that Indonesia has topped the list, demonstrating the country’s generosity.
Based on the survey conducted by Gallup across over 140 countries, the report delves into various aspects of charitable giving, including helping strangers, donating money, and volunteering for noble causes.
The World Giving Index highlights six key findings that offer insights into charitable trends across the globe. As outlined on the CAF’s official website, Indonesia’s dominance is indisputable with a remarkable score of 74 points. Nine out of ten Indonesians make monetary donations and more than six out of ten dedicate their time to volunteer work for good causes.
The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) first released its annual report in 2010, following the global financial crisis. The study has since provided insights into the nature of giving worldwide, offering a glimpse into the philanthropic spirit of different cultures.

The surveys involved approximately 145,702 individuals from 142 countries, representing over 95% of the world’s population.

2. Kenya – 63 points
3. Singapore – 61 points
4. The Gambia – 61 points
5. Nigeria – 60 points
6. United States – 59 points
7. Ukraine – 57 points
8. Australia – 54 points
9. United Arab Emirates – 54 points
10. Malta – 54 points
Most Charitable Countries by Region
The Charities Aid Foundation named Oceania, North America, and South East Asia as the most generous regions in the world. Each of these regions has a fairly high score above the global average of 40 points.
The report found a correlation between high-scoring regions and greater levels of life satisfaction. Oceania, for instance, consistently ranks among the world’s happiest regions. However, Southeast Asia serves as a notable exception, demonstrating that charitable giving can thrive even in regions facing challenges.
