Cocaine reportedly belonging to US President Joe Biden’s son was discovered in the West Wing, adding to the White House‘s scandals as the nation reels from ongoing gun violence and mass shootings.
According to media reports, Joe Biden’s son Hunter, who visited the White House around the time the substance was discovered, is most likely the owner of the illegal substance.
Hunter has a long history of drug and alcohol abuse and has been implicated in a number of corruption and drug-related scandals. He is currently involved in legal proceedings after being charged with three federal offenses, including unlawful possession of a firearm and two tax frauds.
According to sources cited by The Washington Post on Tuesday, the US Secret Service (USSS), which guards the president and other top government figures, discovered an “unknown item” late on Sunday in the West Wing of the White House.
One of the people with knowledge of the situation claimed that the emergency services and fire department in Washington had told the Secret Service that the substance they had discovered was cocaine.
Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in an email that the White House complex was put into a precautionary closure on Sunday evening as Independence Day celebrations got underway while agents from the Secret Service Uniformed Division looked into an unknown object found inside a work area.
The white powdery substance, according to a second source with knowledge of the situation, was discovered during a routine Secret Service search inside the West Wing work area.
Later, the substance was designated as a “non-hazardous” substance by relevant Fire Department authorities.
According to the Secret Service spokesperson, “an investigation into the cause and manner” of how the powdery white substance entered the White House, the DC Fire Department was contacted to assess the item and quickly determined it to be non-hazardous.
