Israeli minister calls for the demolition of hundreds of Palestinian homes

In a move that highlights the rising Israeli inhuman and extremism against Palestinians in the occupied territories amid unrestrained expansionism, a far-right Israeli minister has advocated for the destruction and demolition of hundreds of Palestinian homes; in an effort to replace Palestinian families with settlers.

The Tel Aviv regime plans to expel Palestinian from various East al-Quds neighborhoods. According to Israeli cabinet minister of settlement, Orit Strook claimed that these homes and “tens of neighborhoods” that the Palestinian Authority has authorized are in fact “located on land belonging to the Jewish people.” she was alluding to “Area C” in the occupied West Bank, which the Israeli apartheid state views as its property.

Additionally, she asserted that Palestinians who construct on their land “carry out illegal construction without permits.” She requested that these houses be destroyed by Israeli Minister of Security Yoav Galant.

The far-right politician also went ahead to speak with the Israeli radio that the regime’s cabinet will attempt to recognize dozens of illegal settlers’ locations and immediately construct prefabricated homes as new unlawful Israeli settlements.

Strook stated that the current Israeli cabinet, based on an agreement with the coalition cabinet, will attempt to quickly recognize dozens of settlement outposts and approve construction operations in order to facilitate the building of settlements in the West Bank, where the settlers are referred to as “Hilltop youth,” despite the fact that she acknowledged that settlement outposts such as “Or Chaim” is illegal.

“The time has come for the return of settlement construction activity in Israel.” This was a statement made by, Daniela Weis, one of the leaders of the settlement support movement known as “Gush Imonim,” in an interview with the Yediot Aharonot newspaper in relation to Strook’s view.

Meanwhile, in the occupied West Bank and East al-Quds, Israel routinely demolishes Palestinian homes, claiming that the buildings were constructed without Israeli permits, on their own land; however, these permits are nearly impossible to obtain. Additionally, they compel Palestinian property owners to demolish their homes or to bear the costs for not demolishing. However, the Rights groups claim that the Israeli municipality denies permits to nearly 75 percent of Palestinian al-Quds residents’ applications.

Over 230 Israeli settlements have been constructed since Israel’s 1967 occupation of the West Bank and East al-Quds Palestinian territories, which has become home to over 600,000 Israelis. According to international law, all Israeli settlements are illegal. This has been stated in a number of resolutions, the UN Security Council has criticized Israel’s settlement activities in the occupied territories.
