Israel’s intensified persecution of Palestinians

Israel’s intensified persecution of Palestinians; An analyst has stated that the situation in Palestine could result in a third Intifada—an uprising—because Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition government has intensified its various forms of oppression and of Palestinians.

In an interview with Press TV’s Spotlight on Monday, geopolitical analyst and anti-imperialist activist Brecht Jonkers made the remarks about the most extreme right-wing moves the newly sworn-in Israeli cabinet has made against Palestinians and the inevitable consequences.

Withholding millions of dollars in tax revenues from the Palestinian Authority (PA), ordering the removal of Palestinian flags from public spaces, ensuring unimproved conditions for Palestinian prisoners, and enforcing restrictions on Palestinian lawmaker visits to prisoners are just a few of Tel Aviv’s outrageous actions against Palestinians since the start of the new year.

The PA’s successful lobbying for a UN General Assembly vote on December 30 to refer Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) preceded the most recent developments. Since then, the regime has been fuming.

Jonkers commented on the recent developments, “It is of course hard to say in advance exactly what is going to happen, but I believe we are definitely looking at it as sort of a third intifada situation.”

He went on to say that the “big existential fear” that runs through the Israeli entity and its implications for the regime’s continued existence as it “runs out of demographic power” are the reasons for the rapid escalation.

He added, “if they just leave things the way they are, the Israelis start to fade, and eventually the Palestinians will quite simply outnumber them massively to such an extent that they can take their country back,” and that “they are running out of Israeli settlers and they are not reproducing quickly enough to take over the Palestinian population demographically.”

According to Jonkers, as a result, they resort to extreme violence in order to truly escalate the situation into a complete war, believing that their technological and weaponry superiority will prevail.

However, he added, “We will see in the end the Palestinian victory when the third Intifada breaks up and when the forces of resistance take over in Palestine.”
