Emergency in Britain, a country stalled by waves of strike

Passengers traveling within the UK or abroad on holiday are facing a state of emergency due to the ongoing strike. People are demanding the government reconsider its plans.

The situation is such that the government is sending troops to control passports and workers, as between 2,000 and 3,000 workers are going on strike. It was recently reported that the UK Home Secretary warned that there would be “undoubted and serious disruption” and acknowledged that people planning to travel abroad should “think carefully about their plans as they may be affected”.

Meanwhile, the Railway Employees Union has confirmed that the strike will continue from 6 pm on December 13-14 and December 16-17. Similarly, there will be strike from Christmas night till December 27, similarly there will be strike in few days of January also.

More than half of the train lines will remain closed on these dates. Rail management has asked people to travel only in necessary conditions, and check the availability of trains. Similarly, even on days when there is no strike, the journey may get disrupted due to the train being at a different station.

Investors, shopkeepers, and bar and restaurant owners have said they fear losing business during the busiest time of the year. The situation is such that the union is demanding wage hikes in line with inflation, no forced eviction till April 2024, and it has been said on behalf of the union that there will be a strike if the demands are not met.

Circumstances suggest that in December, we will see a wave of strikes in the UK. One of the most important reasons for this type of strike is certainly the inflation over the past year, which has increased dramatically and unexpectedly. The increase in inflation is due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, an unprecedented increase in energy prices, and rising costs and wages.
