Iran’s top diplomat told his south African counterpart that Iran continues efforts to establish a ceasefire in Ukraine.

In a phone call, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor discussed bilateral relations and several regional and international issues.

Stressing the importance of the African continent in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Amir-Abdollahian emphasized the Iranian government’s resolve to develop relations with this continent, especially with South Africa.

Referring to the preparations for holding the 15th Joint Economic Commission of the two countries, Amir Abdollahian expressed hope that the many opportunities and capacities of the two countries will be exploited more.

He also added that Iran is ready to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest to both Iranian and South African parties.

Turning to the issue of Palestine, the top Iranian diplomat appreciated South Africa’s stance on the Palestinian issue and its policy of supporting the oppressed Palestinian people.

Regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine, Amir-Abdollahian stated, “We continue our efforts to establish a ceasefire in Ukraine, and our principled position is to oppose war and end the crisis in Ukraine through political means.”

Naledi Pandor, for her part, Pointed to the important position of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its important capacities and appreciated the efforts to hold the new round of the Joint Economic Commission of the two countries.

She also emphasized the importance of implementing the agreements of the Joint Commission.

While pointing to the important role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in mediating the Ukraine crisis, South Africa’s foreign minister stressed, “The ceasefire is important for all parties and the international community, because the consequences of this war have caused a food and energy crisis in some countries, and we hope that the concerns of Russia and Ukraine will be resolved through negotiations.”

She also expressed hope that Iran’s nuclear negotiations will be concluded at the earliest time.

The top South African diplomat also invited the Iranian President to visit her country on behalf of the President of South Africa.

It was earlier reported that, Iran’s FM, Amir Abdollahian made the remarks in a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba.

He emphasized Iran’s principled position in opposition to the war, saying: As we have announced since the beginning of the crisis, we are against the war in Afghanistan, Yemen, Palestine, and including Ukraine.

Our practical policy is also in accordance with this principle and we are against any action that leads to escalation of conflicts.

Rejecting the US National Security Advisor’s recent baseless accusations against Iran, regarding the sending Iranian drones to Russia to be used in the war against Ukraine, he said making such claims at the same time as Biden’s trip to the occupied Palestinian territories is in line with specific political goals.

Iran’s principled and clear position in opposing the war and supporting the cessation of war is not like the dual approach taken by some Western countries, he said.

Iran continues its efforts to end the war and solve the political crisis in Ukraine, he stressed.

Kuleba lauded Iran’s anti-war positions, saying: We value the continuation of the communication between the foreign ministers of Iran and Ukraine, which was established even in the difficult days of the beginning of the war.

I agree with you that we should not allow the others’ accusations to damage the friendly relations between Kiev and Tehran.

He announced Kiev readiness to open a new chapter of relations with Tehran.

He appreciated Tehran for its efforts to help establish a ceasefire and focus on a political solution.
