Canadians demand an end to arms exports to Israel

A petition was launched in Canada calling on the prime minister to immediately stop sending weapons to Israel’s apartheid regime. The Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) has announced the launch of a campaign to end Canadian arms sales to Israel.

The campaign called on the Canadian government to investigate the use of Canadian-made weapons against Palestinian civilians.

The Canadian organization published a report entitled “Arming the apartheid regime by exporting weapons to Israel” in which it revealed that the sale of military goods to Israel has accelerated in recent years and 2020 has reached its highest level in more than three years.

The report states that in 2020, Canada exported a total of $ 19.5 million worth of military goods to Israel, while Canada’s total military exports to Israel from 1978 to 2020 totaled $ 228,827,781. Is.

The petition, signed by thousands of Canadians, states: “Israeli forces continue to attack Al-Aqsa Mosque, and in occupied Palestine daily, Canada sells about $ 20 million worth of weapons to Israel each year, although human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, have recently concluded that Israel imposes an apartheid regime against the Palestinians.

He added: “There is no excuse for Canada to continue exporting weapons to a country that commits apartheid and other abuses, and arms exports to Israel should be stopped and it should be examined whether Canadian-made weapons have been used against Palestinian civilians or not.”

It is worth noting that Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East are a broad coalition of human rights organizations and advocates advocating for Palestinian rights in Canada.
